Check-ups

I took the kids for their check-ups on Thursday--Sawyer for his 3 year and Riley for her 4 month. Sawyer was 31.14 lbs and 37.25 inches and Riley was 15 lbs 2 oz and 25.25 inches. Wow! Riley has grown...a lot! She was in the 75% for all measurements. Just as a comparison, Sawyer was 16 lbs at 6 months. I'm glad Riley's on the chunky side, especially for her up coming lip reconstruction. I tried her with some baby rice cereal, but she's not ready--lots of bad faces and even some gagging. Sawyer wasn't ready either until around 5 months, so I'm just going to wait to try again after Riley's totally recovered.

I then took them to have portraits made on Friday. I cannot wait to see the proofs. The photographer said they should be up by this Friday. Later Friday afternoon, Riley rolled over from stomach to back. She is trying really hard to roll over from back to stomach, but can only manage to get on her side.

tada!

I just love this face! I'm having really mixed emotions about her surgery. We leave a week from today for Boston. This is my Riley. She is beautiful. I love her just the way she is. But I am also excited to see how she will look after her lip repair is done. I feel so much more reluctant, anxious, nervous this time. But I know she is in great hands (God's and Dr. M's) and that she will be beautiful.

Love the progression pics of her roll. Too cute. She is just so darn adorable, and she will continue to be adorable even after her surgery. It will take some time to get used to her new smile but you get to fall in love with the same person for a second time. She and the entire family will be in my thoughts and prayers and I look forward to a post-surgery update.

Wow! She really is growing fast. Gavin was only 14.05 pounds and 23 3/4" at his 4 month appointment. I love the pictures of her rolling over, they are so cute. And that last one of her beautiful face and big, blue eyes is just precious. She is such a beautiful baby. I think all of us cleft mommies feel the same way before our babies go in for surgery - we are sad to see the face we are already in love with changed. I sobbed my eyes out before Gavin's surgery, but Joy is right - after her surgery, you will fall in love for a second time. Her new smile will melt your heart just as it did before.

Wonderful news that they are both growing so well, it's just what they do! I always joke with Ella that I wish she could just stop growing for a little while, and she responds with "I just can't Mom, just like you didn't stop growing!"

I know how you feel about Riley's sweet face changing. It is hard, but like Joy and Kelly have already said, you will fall in love all over again!

Wishing you many blessings and peace as you prepare for this inevitable change . . . you will all be great!
