4D ultrasound

sweet little hands

beautiful face

eating her foot!

precious baby

wow what a foot!

I had a 4D ultrasound today and got some awesome pictures of sweet baby Riley! At first she was being a little shy (or maybe just sleepy) and was covering her face with her hands, but she soon cooperated. Her cleft appears to be complete on the left and incomplete on the right, which I am hoping will make for a easier repair. We even got one of her trying to eat her foot! She is so cute and I can't wait to meet her! She was measuring a week ahead and an estimated weight of 4lbs 4oz--I'm hoping she will be my chunky baby!

Wow, those are some amazing pictures! We pushed and pushed to have at least a 3D ultra sound, but the perinatologist never thought it was necessary. How exciting for you to have these pictures of sweet Riley!

I'd like to advise you, from experience, and not to be discouraging: try not to convince yourself that what Riley's cleft appears to be right now is what it is. It may in fact not be incomplete on the right, or it could be incomplete on the left. We thought Abby's cleft was complete based on what we saw at our ultrasound, and it turned out to be incomplete. How ever things turn out, Riley is beautiful. I can't wait to "meet" her!

Ohhh, how beautiful these pictures are of Riley. I think that it is so great that you know of Riley's cleft ahead of her birth. We knew nothing of Reid's bilateral cleft and were just kind of thrown in to the whole whirlwind.

I think if I would have known about Reid's perfect little "before" face, I would have been able to prepare a bit better for the birth and the necessary steps we would take after his birth. One question for you...do you know what kind of bottle you are going to use??? If I could just speak my mind for a second...our hospital where Reid was born was FABULOUS.....the care was great, the education for Brian and I on cleftes was great, the team it took to get him transferred to a care unit were all great. BUT....the feeding was horrible. I had to use a Mead Johnson feeder....HATED IT. It was horrible. If you can...be set in this area before you have to deal with a feeding issue. We used the Haberman feeder, and never turned back. (this was after sryinge feeding for over 2 months...horrible). So, if I could offer you any advice...the feeding issues can be big. If you can be all ready for them ahead of time, you will be in good shape. Can't wait to see your precious one. Thinking of you...

Riley's pictures are precious. I am so glad to find your blog. We have been thinking about you, Brock and Sawyer. Just know that your hands may be full with two, but so will your heart! Call us if you need anything. I think we might owe you a night or two of babysitting! Ha! Just so you know you are still the only person besides family that has kept the boys and Cade is 10! Take care and keep posting!

Riley looks so great. I love the pictures of babies when they are still in the belly. They are always doing the funniest things. If I could offer some advise (from Abigail's Dad point of view), I would not "try" not to focus on what kind of cleft (i.e. complete, incomplete, bilateral, etc.) as much as you can. When we were going through all of our ultrasounds we kept getting different stories. I then began to form an expectation. When Abby was born her cleft wasn't what I "expected" and I was thrown for a loop. Abigail was beyond expectations but since I tried so hard to figure out what kind of cleft she had, I feel it took away from me enjoying another part of her. Riley will teach you more about yourself than you will ever know. This goes for Brock as well.
